Wallis Islands’ otherwise known as Wallis is an island in the Pacific Ocean belonging to the French Overseas Collectivity. The French refer to this form of their branch of government as collectivite d’outre-mer or COM. The Polynesian island archipelago has an area of 77,000 km which is fairly large for a Polynesian island chain stuck in the middle of nowhere. The highest point on Wallis Islands is now Mount Loka which is 131 m above the sea’s surface. That is a very tall volcano and what a view!

If you plan on vacationing into French Polynesia then you must know that the price of even paying such as the very necessary airfare to this wonderful location is very high. The reason why the residents and the indigenous peoples of this French colony do little complaining is that this way of the higher priced vacation is just what the locales desire. The French take really good care of the Wallis Islands so any outside source of income is neither needed nor requested.

Wallis Islands are protected under the flag of the French empire and is one of the last colonial conquests of the country of France. It is impossible to speak about the Wallis Island experience without reminding oneself that this is a French colony and must be organized and run in the manner of what France dictates. After all that is the real and valid definition of what a colony must be.

These islands in the sea and sun under the French colony ruling of 1525 are seemingly happy being just as they are. Colonized. This ruling states that all natural resources and a deep percentage of the country’s entire GDP goes toward the mother country. This would be the country of France herself. The population of Wallis Islands in 2006 was up and that is a very good sign for this strained for people Polynesian locality. While the entire planet struggles with too many people on it the people of Wallis Islands do not share in that issue. The people of Wallis Islands are found living on only 67% of the territory’s geographical offering.

Most of the inhabitants speak Uvea and are well-versed in conversational French at the very least. Anyone having a sense of colonization will understand how the people of Wallis Islands can live under the rule of another country. They prefer to be Wallis and not French so they select to not fight for their independence and stay loyal to their country and their traditions and the country of France. In the end what does it really matter whether or not a foreign flag is flown right along side of the Wallis Islands flag? It matters very little as the country is smart and chooses not to ruffle the feathers of a European power that has shown to not be so kind when she does not get her way. Understanding a little about Wallis is the first step in getting there.
