Although scuba diving is considered a safe sport, this doesn’t mean that dangers are not part of the game. And as a responsible diver, it is only wise enough that you know the ways on how to prevent the occurrence on any accidents on scuba diving.
1. Have enough proper training. Just before going out on a scuba diving, just make sure you get proper training. Proper training will make you far more comfortable while underwater which is very much important in avoiding undue accidents.
2. Avoid holding your breath too long. Practice breathing slowly. Relax and exhale fully and slowly. Short and shallow breaths will make you lose air more easily. Breathe deeply and then slowly exhale and lung injuries in severe cases. Avoid holding your breath just to decrease your air consumption. You will only retract your diaphragm, which increases your air consumption which could lead to physical exhaustion while underwater. So avoid holding your breath if you want to last longer in water.
3. Dive with your diving buddy. One general rule in scuba diving is never to dive alone for safety purposes especially during night dives. Having a diving buddy will make sure that you have someone looking at your back as you dive. A diving buddy could be your back up in case of emergency. If something happens underwater, your diving buddy can save you from a life and death situation. So make sure you take a diving buddy with you for your every diving activity.
4. Avoid alcohol. If you’re planning to go out for a scuba diving, make sure you avoid drinking alcohol a day before. Diving while under the influence of alcohol has been one of the reasons why many divers including pros nearly drowned or drown during scuba diving. So make sure you avoid any alcoholic drinks just before you go out for your diving trip.
