Where in the world is Lanzarote? For those who haven’t visited this holiday paradise before, just find a map, identify the west coast of Africa and the Canary Islands are located just there, off the coast of Morocco in the Atlantic Ocean. These seven islands are owned by Spain and offer great weather whatever the time of year which of course is one of their major attractions, and Lanzarote is physically situated closest to the mainland.

This geographic location places Lanzarote on the same line of latitude as parts of Mexico and the Bahamas, close to the Tropic of Cancer. But whilst these other locations are arguably more exotic Lanzarote still manages to match them in the department that really matters – delivering equally good weather and a very clement climate.

The island´s all important tourist sector was initially fuelled by package holidaymakers from the UK during the 1980´s. But that has started to change; with less and less breaks booked via travel agents and more arranged direct on line by independent travellers . As a result a growing number of holidaymakers now prefer to book private lanzarote villas together with flights, which take about four hours from the UK,and can easily be booked separately.

Most of the best accommodation on the island is located in the main resort of Puerto del Carmen, which is situated in the centre of Lanzarote´s south eastern coastline. There are numerous hotels to choose from here. Along with hundreds of good quality Puerto del Carmen villas. The type of accommodation that is highly prized by independent travellers as it grants both privacy and independence.

The other main resort on Lanzarote is called Playa Blanca – or White Beach. Temperatures here are usually higher than elsewhere on Lanzarote, whilst the beaches are regarded as amongst the best in the Canaries, with tourists able to select from 3 excellent main beaches within the resortalong with the bays and coves of Papagayo beach some 15 minutes walk away. All of these factors ensure that Playa Blanca villas are a popular choice with holidaymakers.

As smaller island´s go, Lanzarote has a higher than average number of tourist attractions, with several dedicated to portraying the history and culture of local residents. But Lanzarote is also an remarkably popular location for sports enthusiasts, as there are a number of activities available to tourists, from surfing to golf. So even travellers who are not driven to seek the sun will find there is plenty to do on Lanzarote.
